Asbestos Advice
Asbestos containing materials, (ACM’s) were used extensively in the construction industry over the years. Although the use of asbestos in the built environment was banned in the United Kingdom at the end of 1999, millions of tonnes still exist within the commercial, industrial, retail, public and domestic buildings.

The wholesale use of asbestos in construction has left us with a legacy of risk. Even today, it is estimated that around 4000 people in the UK die from asbestos related disease annually. This figure is expected to rise over the next five – ten years. Those most at risk include:
Electricians
Plumbers
Carpenters
Maintenance staff
Demolition staff

The Health and Safety Executive recently ran a successful media campaign
titled “The Hidden Killer”.

The aim of the campaign was to highlight the dangers of this hidden killer, which we are often not aware of when we work in unfamiliar buildings.

ISS fully understand the potential risks of getting it wrong and the devastating effects it has on the person exposed and their dependents.

ISS will help you to get it right FIRST TIME and as cost effectively as possible.

We can assist building owner/occupiers to manage any asbestos in their buildings along with assistance to appoint the right asbestos remediation company to undertake any repairs/removal works.

ISS can offer face-fit testing for popular makes and models of half masks and powered respirators.

Quantitative face-fit testing is vitally important to ensure that the selected respirator correctly fits the person, thus providing maximum protection when working with ACM’s. It is also a requirement of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Using the latest ‘Portacount’ quantitative face-fit test equipment and a portable treadmill, we can undertake tests at the clients' premises, work sites or following a training session.
